Frequently Asked Questions
|
Concerned about your SIGG bottle's liner? SIGG bottles have always been safe. In August 2008 SIGG started manufacturing their bottles with a new EcoCare liner which is 100% BPA free. (fyi - we no longer stock the old liner bottles).
Very thorough migration testing in laboratories
around the world is conducted regularly and has consistently
shown SIGG bottles to have NO PRESENCE of phthalates,
Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA), Bysphenol A (BPA), Bysphenol B
(BPB) or any other chemicals which scientists have deemed as potentially
harmful.
They are a reputable company and spend
$$$ on research and development and they donate to 1% For the Planet. They are the premier water
bottle company because they have the premier product, which
is why suddenly everyone is producing bottles that look just
like theirs hoping you won't notice, there are knock-offs all over the place.
We admit we are biased, not only because
we sell the products but because we love the products. We've
done the research and have faith in SIGG (and they don't
pay us to say that!!).

My SIGG bottle is one with the old liner, is it safe to use? If you have a SIGG bottle with the former lining, it is absolutely safe to
use.
Prior to its transition to the new EcoCare Liner, SIGG utilized a water‐based epoxy liner
which contained a trace amount of BPA. Although the
bottle may be manufactured with BPA, doesn't mean it leaches BPA. The
original lined bottles were always thoroughly and regularly tested in both the
USA and Switzerland and all
tests revealed no migration or leaching of BPA or any other
substance from the protective inner liner into your
beverage.
If you are concerned
about your SIGG bottles with the original liner, please review the

Is it safe to drink from an aluminium SIGG bottle? SIGG bottles have a water-based, non-toxic liner that has been
thoroughly tested both in Europe and in the USA to ensure 0.0% leaching
– so absolutely no migration of either the liner or the Aluminum of the
bottle will seep into your beverage. SIGG has been manufacturing and
perfecting metal beverage bottles for over 100 years. SIGGs have been
around long before the BPA scare. Having been in this business for over
100 years, you can trust SIGG Switzerland to produce products of the
highest quality and safety standards in the world.
Will SIGGs Leach Metal Into My Water?
No. There is no leaching of anything whatsoever, no metal, no liner, no
nothing. Some may think Stainless Steel beverage containers may be
better, but just because it's "Stainless Steel" doesn't mean a high
quality grade of stainless steel is used in manufacturing the item.
(kind of like Gold, is it 10K or 24K?)
Scientific research shows that some stainless steel containers on the market WILL LEACH METAL into the water that's been poured into them! Click Here To Download This Report
What If I Scraped Or Chipped Off My Liner?
Some of our customers have inadvertently scraped or chipped off their
liner exposing some of the Aluminum and have asked if the bottle was
still safe to drink beverages from.
Research shows It's nearly
impossible for the body to absorb enough aluminum to cause Alzheimer's.
A study in May 2007 Journal of Alzheimer's Disease found that you would
have to absorb MORE than 1,000 milligrams of aluminum each day to
increase your risk of dementia.
That's the equivalent of
drinking 1,000 cups of tea (one of the HIGHEST sources of aluminum in
the human diet). Since the average person is exposed to less than 10
milligrams a day, you are pretty much safe.
But Doesn't Aluminum Cause Alzheimers?
No, it’s a myth that has persisted since 1965, when researchers found
that exposing rabbits’ brains to aluminum caused nerve cell damage
similar to Alzheimer’s. Many over-the-counter medicines contain
Aluminum. One antacid tablet can contain 50 milligrams of Aluminum and
a buffered aspirin tablet may contain about 10 to 20 milligrams of
Aluminum. A SIGG bottle, even though is made of Aluminum, will not
leach any Aluminum whatsoever into your drink because of our liner.

- If I drop my SIGG bottle will it break?
- No, your SIGG bottle is made of aluminum and will not break on impact. The bottle top meets a very high standard of
mechanical durability. Yet the stress of a full bottle landing at an
unfortunate angle may be sufficient to break the lid. Regrettably,
there is not much to be done about this. But you can buy replacement parts for any SIGG bottle top.
Can my bottle be dented or scratched? If your Sigg water bottle is misused it can
dent or scratch. However, this will not affact the quality or
performance of the internal liner. We recommend an insulation pouch to protect your bottle.
- Can dents in the bottle damage the inner coating?
- No, the inner coating is highly elastic. Dents cannot crack the coating and the SIGG bottle remains perfectly usable.
- Can I fill SIGG bottles with apple juice?
- Yes.
The inner coating has been tested with various drinks, apple juice in
particular. The SIGG bottle passes this test with flying colours. Tip:
drink apple juice within 12 hours of filling the bottle. Warmth and
oxygen may initiate a fermentation process, which by the way is natural
and can take place in any bottle, regardless of material.
- Can I use my SIGG bottle for fizzy drinks, too?
- Yes,
of course. All SIGG bottle tops provide a 100% seal and cannot leak.
Tip: fill the bottle no further than 2–3 cm below the lip. And before
taking a drink, relieve the pressure inside the bottle by gently
rotating the entire top.
Can SIGG bottles be used for boiling water? No. Strong heat can damage the outer coating.
- How do I clean my SIGG bottle?
- Rinse
your SIGG bottle thoroughly with warm water after using.
Wash with warm soapy water. For more thorough cleaning, brushes and cleaning tabs are available on
our web site.
- Can I put my SIGG bottle in the dishwasher, freezer, or microwave?
- To maintain the original finish we do not recommend putting your SIGG bottle in the dishwasher. The Swiss believe good old fashioned soapy water will do the trick.
- Your SIGG bottle is perfect for cold drinks and may be cooled in the
refrigerator. To maintain the desired temperature please use one of the
specially made insulating covers.
- Do not allow any liquid to freeze in your
SIGG bottle. SIGG bottles are tough, but
like a soda can, can crack open if the contents are allowed to freeze.
Do not place your SIGG anywhere if you think there is a possibility the
liquid may freeze inside the bottle (don't even leave it in your car
overnight!)- empty the bottle completely. If you did freeze your bottle,
and it wasn't destroyed, it is still safe to
use.
- Never put your SIGG bottle, cup, thermos or any other metal object in a microwave oven.
My SIGG Bottle Has a Dent On the Bottom -

This dent is supposed to be there. It is part of the manufacturing process.
My seal leaks. Why? All SIGG seals are guaranteed watertight. But
even so, they can become worn overtime through intensive use.
Tip: do not put seals in the dishwasher. To clean them, remove and
rinse with hot water, then simply leave to dry naturally. You can replace the bottle seal, which is available as a
spare part.
Can I put a different lid on my bottle? Yes! All SIGG bottle lids are interchangeable.
How do I clean the SIGG bottle lid? The SIGG bottle lids are easy to clean. The sport lid comes apart for thorough cleaning with warm water and detergent.
